Weird Foods

This page is dedicated to the weird / cool foods that I have tried throughout my life. I will keep updating this 🙂

Wild Boar Burger

Has a unique taste to it. It tastes like a mixture between burger meat and Bacon. It is delicious however I couldn’t eat 2 of them as would get sickly after a while

Where did you try this? – Gourmet Burger, Mailbox Birmingham

Kangaroo Steak

Doesnt taste much different from other steak. Its chewy. Not worth paying the extra money for.

Where did you try this? – In a pub on the Bridgenorth route whilst crusing with Bec on our bar crawls.

Buffalo Burger

Low in fat and tasted yummy. It was thick and had a unique taste to it. Very rich in meat and good if your hungry. Kinda burger you dont need to add bacon and cheese too.

Where did you try this? – Birmingham food festival.

Crab

Delicious. Probably one of my favourite fish meats. Ive had crab sticks etc, but eating it out an actual crab claw is brilliant. Its very hard meat but very tasty. You dont get much out of the claw thow 😦

Where did you try this? – The Crab Inn, Chieveley

Mussels

Looks weird however you must try one. They are of a tough texture. Dont eat those with a closed shell. They taste yummy with garlic sauce

Where did you try this? – Iron Bridge, UK with Garlic sauce. Also had them in Belgium served in a top hat.

Lobster

Tough texture, very similar to crab out of the claw. Tried it however wouldnt pay the expensive amount they charge again for it. Not amazing.

Where did you try this? – The Crab Inn, Chieveley

Squid

Tried calamari in many places mainly in breadcrumbs. Its similar to onion rings in terms of the texture, only thicker. Couldnt have too many of them so ideal for a starter. Not slimey.

Where did you try this? – Cote French restaurant, Mail box , Birmingham

Octopus

The main thing about this is the way it looked. It was a small octopus with tentacles and everything. I tried its tentacle and was VERY chewy. Wouldnt bother having it again as no real flavour.

Where did you try this? – Wing Wah , Wolverhampton

Snails

Surprisingly nice. The worse part is scooping them out of the shell, however the meat is of a rare steak texture. Its chewy and can taste of dirt which is weird. Their nice in a garlic sauce and would try them again however can only handle 2-3 at a time.

Where did you try this? – Paris

Frogs Legs

These were battered however not my that nice. They were of a fish like texture and a little slimey for me. Tasted of fish NOT CHICKEN!

Where did you try this? – Edinburgh

Haggis

The fact that its sheeps brain puts you off, however its just like eating minced meat really. It was nice. Not sure id have it again as couldn’t stop thinking about what it was.

Where did you try this? – Edinburgh

Prawn Dumplings

Not my cup of tea. The outta layer is abut too mushy for me. I like prawns cooked hard and alot of the time in Dumplings there not hard. Not for me

Where did you try this? – cheung king gardens, Birmingham

Lotus leave rice

Surprisingly very nice. I had it with Pork and was very nice. Its got a different texture to normal rice. More mushy but alot of flavor

Where did you try this? – cheung king gardens, Birmingham

Cheung Fan

Thin roll filled with shrimp, pork, beef, vegetables, or other ingredients. Dont like the outter roll texture as its too wet – prob due to what its cooked in?. The meat inside is not normally cooked hard and tastes a little underdone.

Where did you try this? -cheung king gardens, Birmingham

BBQ Pork Bun

This is basically pork in a sweet bun. This one i kinda like. The bun is hard and only really has sauce on the inside. The pork is nicely cooked however not sure the sweet flavor of the bun goes with the pork?

Where did you try this? -cheung king gardens, Birmingham

Steam Ribs

Basically like spare ribs. Really nice. Love ribs

Where did you try this? -cheung king gardens, Birmingham

Irish Stew

Like normal stew but thicker pieces of meat. Goes nice with bread. Great on a cold day

Where did you try this? – Dublin

Irish Curdle

This is sausage, bacon, carrots and potatoes in a pot. The sausages are simliar texture to hot dog sausages. This is ok however did turn my stomach. It also doesnt look nice. Reminds me of intestines or fingers 😦

Where did you try this? – Dublin
