Madeira – Quinta Da Fonte

Although this location has Funchal in its address, its not really anywhere near the main town. You have to get a bus to and from the town to this place as its up the hill nearer to a place called Monte I guess.

We got a taxi from airport to ere that cost us £19 as pre booked it online. Took about 20 mins to get to this place.

Now this place is set high up in the mountains.

We were greeted by the owners who were adorable. They didn’t speak much English but couldn’t do enough for you!

When we first walked into this place we were hit by the amazing view of antiques everywhere. They even had a Piano ahhhhhh! It was a very beautiful place with a very beautiful Garden.

They even had my birthyear printed on their driveway…CLEARLY HAVE CLASS!

They showed us to our room where they had laid out a special surprise for our Honeymoon of Madeira Cake and champagne! What a nice touch! It was also traditional Madeira cake not the spongy shite in the UK.

Our room had views where you can see the sea and had a big 4 poster bed and large en suite. You could literally see the sea as you laid in your bed. This was our view every morning.

This was the rest of the room. The only downfall was you couldn’t flush toilet paper down the toilet. At first I figured maybe this was everywhere on the island, but this was the only place I came across where you couldn’t? But hey everything else was fine.

I even managed to do a quite artistic shot of our rings on our window sill.

They asked us when we wanted breaky and we told them. Every morning they served it outside in the garden (unless it was raining) and you had a selection of meats, cheeses, jams etc. They even gave you fresh warm scrambled eggs which were the BEST I have ever tasted! It was more than enough. I had all the meats plus cheat topped with honey. It was lush!

The rest of the house was also beautiful. This place probably featured around 6 rooms. It was a mansion. In the lobby area outside our room upstairs there’s a pc you can use with wifi, a balcony you can go onto with your wine. They even feature a mini bar where you just put your money in the glass jar and take what you want. If you want to buy your own stuff you can and use their fridge which is by the mini bar. They have thought of everything in this place.

The Location was ok. It was very quiet where we were as we werent in the main Funchal City. There were 2 Poncha bars 2 mins walk away from this place which was ideal and you could get true Ponda there for £1.50 each. Lethal and cheap what more do you want?

We had to catch a bus everyday to and from the city. The busstop is right outside the BNB. It cost 1.95 euros per person regardless where you get on and off. So we purchased a Giro card for 5 Euros each per day from a newsagents in town which was limited travel on any bus. Its once they gave you the card you can then use the same card to keep topping it up. You cant top up or buy these cards on the bus so you have to get them from a newsagents

The bus journey takes around 15 mins to get into town. If honest you could probably walk it to town as its all down hill, but I WOULD NOT attempt to walk it back as its all up hill up several windy roads! Not good! The bus journey itself is an experience as they drive very fast down these windy roads. We took a bus on our first day and it was like a roller coaster.. deadly but fun!
