I transcribe your old documents into a digital and legible format, especially those from the German speaking area. During my training as an archive assistant I have been learning to read older handwriting styles - this is known as paleography. In the basic package I do a basic transcription and send it to you in the document format of your choice. As an extra, I can rush your request, i.e. put it at the top of my priority list. The other extra is a research to explain the contexts of terms you may not be familiar with. These include antiquated words, former names of a place, or the names of places and people who are no longer around.

I will crack the code on pesky letters, postcards, newspaper articles, and official documents written or typed in the disused German fonts Fraktur and Kurrentschrift. I'll provide a word-for-word transcription into a modern font, and for an additional fee, am happy to translate the whole document into English for you. Kurrentschrift is a type of German handwriting which was in use until the mid-20th century. For many readers today, it is very hard to read or even completely illegible, especially for those not proficient in German. Reading texts written in kurrent can prove valuable for many kinds of historical research, including genealogical research. I will transcribe kurrent and its simplified variety Sütterlin, non-kurrent German handwriting as well as printed fraktur for you. On request, I will include a translation into English. The stated price refers to one standard page of handwritten text with roughly 100–200 words. See the gallery above for a few examples. Of course, your source material may look very differently and contain much less or much more text per page – or you might just need a few words transcribed, such as a line in a register or an address on an envelope.
