The art of transcription is not just about typing, although it is always a plus to have quick fingers. The most important attributes for any transcriber are; 

• Grammar skills: Even though most people don't speak with anything resembling good grammar, a transcriber must be able to strike a balance between what is, and what isn't a well thought out speech in other to deliver a readable transcript, with verbatim transcription being an exception.

• Attention to detail: A transcriber must read through, at least twice, what they've typed, in other to make sure they don't miss anything. It is very easy to leave out a word, letter, or a punctuation that changes entirely the meaning of a sentence.

• Research skills  A good transcriber needs to be an experienced "Googler". Knowing how to use Google in context with what you're researching is a skill. And this is especially important for the more technical side of transcription. I.e; Medical transcriptions, transcribing university coursework, et cetera.
